Tram-Anh Tran
2008
Tram-Anh comes to us from Kansas City after working as a volunteer in the Katrina relief effort in New Orleans. She taught English in Buon Ma Thuot and worked in the Housekeeper Training Program at Phuoc Loc. Tram-Anh's experience is best capture in her own words: ``To be honest, I felt useless the first month I was there and started to ask myself this question, `What in the world am I doing here?' ... After a month of struggles, I slowly began to see how and why my presence at the school had made slight changes. I realized there were students who needed my attention more than anything else, especially when it comes to psychological problems with family and friends. I became their teacher, but was more like their friend. I felt privileged to share some of their hardships ... This is an experience that will stay with me throughout my life. It was more than what I was looking for and I am deeply grateful for it.''
Tram-Anh plans to go on to medical school upon her return to the U.S..
