Thai Nguyen

June 2005

Thai Nguyen, a recent graduate from University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School of Management, volunteered in Viet Nam for 9 weeks over the summer of 2005. Her volunteer work involved market research on the Cook/Housekeeper vocational training project; writing the program description/proposal for the Cook/Housekeeper project; assisting with program administration at Phuoc Loc; setting up and executing their administrative systems at Phuoc Loc (e.g. student directory, inventory management); preparing a brochure for the Phuoc Loc Vocational Training Center as well for the Cook/Housekeeper Training Program; preparing brochure for the Daughters of Charity; writing a short proposal for submission to Lantern Project; and teaching conversational English. Thai describes her volunteer experience as “…interesting, rewarding and fit well with my skills and experiences. I got the opportunity to work on a project from the beginning, and was given a defined piece of work. I have been exposed to a wide spectrum of Vietnamese society. Without HB and Sr. Pascale, I would never have such unique and diverse experiences. No doubt, if I worked here longer, I would be able to see and experience even much more.”
