Building Human Capital through Scholarship Projects:
Scholarships for Poor Rural Children
Since December 2006, Hong Bang has provided scholarships
for 100 poor rural children throughout Vietnam.
The recipients are children ages 6 to 16, in grades 1 through 9,
who live in rural communities throughout Vietnam, primarily in the
northern and central regions. The scholarship program addresses a
troubling trend among rural families who, because of poverty, are
often forced to send their children to work at an early age.
The scholarships help these families keep their children in school by
paying for tuition, books and supplies. In April 2008 and November 2008,
Hong Bang sent additional funds to provide continuing support for
this scholarship program.
College Scholarships for Students in the Central and Northern Regions
Since December 2006, Hong Bang has funded nearly $10,000 USD in scholarships for over 30 college students in the provinces of Bac Ninh, Nam Dinh and Nghe An. These students are studying dentistry, western medicine, eastern medicine, French, English, early childhood education and computer science. All recipients will each return to work in their respective local communities after completing their studies. Currently, fourteen have already returned to apply their skills and knowledge.
